Statement

My oil paintings are inspired by life's continuous play of opposites and the endless circle of joy evolving to pathos, pathos evolving to the hope of inner balance and calm.

I paint this transition of life through interaction of bold and neutral color, intricate and spontaneous brushstroke, a defined horizontal or vertical division in composition and the surprise of organic shapes and spaces where reality may have a new agenda.

Each painting begins with original drawings of the natural world. These drawings are not realistic representations, but exaggerations and distortions of the lines and shapes of the object as I see it.

On canvas, as in life, the drawn object takes on a life of its own, gradually altering to a reality I title "Nature's Transformation".
